Panthère rose en métal recyclé dont la queue dessine le ruban rose d'Octobre Rose, sculpture Recyclhome

Pink October: a pink panther in recycled metal

Every year, October turns pink. Pink October is the major breast cancer screening awareness campaign, and its symbol, the pink ribbon, can be seen everywhere: in shop windows, on buildings, across social media. This year, at the workshop in Corbonod, it took on a rather special form: metal.

When the pink ribbon is born from a sculpture

Among his latest creations, Alexandre imagined a mischievous pink panther, assembled from salvaged mechanical parts and set on an old starter ring gear. Look closer and you will notice that its long tail curls to form exactly the loop of the pink ribbon. A subtle nod, shaped by hand, weld after weld.

As always at Recyclhome, nothing was bought new: every element had a first life before finding its place in this one-of-a-kind piece. A way of reminding us that what we think is worn out can still carry a message.

A message that matters more than anything

Behind the pink colour lies a reality: breast cancer is the most common cancer among women in France, and early screening greatly increases the chances of recovery. In France, women aged 50 to 74 are invited to have a screening mammogram every two years, covered by the national health insurance. Before 50, if in doubt or with a family history, do not hesitate to talk to your doctor or midwife.

Art as a way of showing support

A sculpture does not replace a screening. But if it can bring a smile, catch the eye and remind just one person to book an appointment, then it will have done its job. That is the whole meaning of this creation: turning forgotten metal into a message of life and solidarity.

Throughout October, the Recyclhome workshop stands alongside everyone who wears the pink ribbon. Take care of yourself, and of those you love.

From oblivion to emotion — Recyclhome.
